I can hear myself telling my young son for the umpteenth time that we are going to Church on any given Sunday morning. I also hear myself telling him to “put on his shoes” . My wife and I try to arrive on time each Sunday but it can
be chaotic getting out of the house. The chaos of a typical Sunday morning is often the ending or starting - depending on your point of view – of a long week. It is no easy task to try to balance life and yet instill
in your children Godly priorities. It is particularly hard when you have two young ones under the age of four. That is why I appreciate my Church family at Northminster Baptist.
From
the first time we started going here almost 10 years ago, we realized it was a place we could make a home. Children were welcomed and encouraged to be part of the activities of the church. It was not a case of children being seen
but not heard, they were both seen and listened to. And it has been a blessing to watch many of those children grow up and become the people God created them to be. As time went by my wife became involved in the nursery
to give mothers like herself a break. We have appreciated the nursery on many Sundays as it allowed us an hour of peace to listen to the message. We are encouraged even more as we have seen more and more children being placed in
the nursery. It confirms again and again that like us, mothers and fathers find this to be a warm and safe place to leave their children.
A church without
children is dying and we praise God that NBC has been, is and will be alive until He returns. Not only has NBC been a place where we feel safe to leave our children in the nursery, we know that as a family, every member watches
out for our children. Imagine our shock one morning when our active and curious two year suddenly disappeared from our side. We looked and looked and could not find him. Then one of the grandmothers brought him to us
and said he was hiding and was about to go outside and she told him not to or he would be in bad trouble. He knew better than defying a Church grandmother. She then took him and brought him to us. This is how we
know we are a family. Everyone looks out for the welfare and safety of our children. The bible tells us that Children are a heritage and reward from the Lord. We see them as not just a heritage and reward
for the parents but for the church and for the community. We have been so blessed to have a church family and community who sees it this same way.
